These are a few photos of some simple string ligatures I came up with on Sunday. I used kevlar string, (except in one where I used zip ties), which is very stiff and non flexible, as well as some bits and pieces I had laying around. The use of kevlar string ensures there's no muting of the sound. The ligatures are very easy to adjust once removed from the mouthpiece and the best thing about them is that they work really well. They hold the reed securely in place and the response is excellent, I can play down to a whisper and subtoning is a breeze. Wood Musical instrument Cylinder Auto part Fashion accessory

This is most interesting Thanks for sharing

What and where do I get the black plastic piece?
The plastic is the kind attached to tools like screw drivers pliers etc when hanged for display in shops. (shown in photo) Also shown in the photos is the latest solution I came up with, which ensures the best non slip attachment to the mouthpiece. The most important thing though is to use kevlar string. It the same as used on Silverstein ligatures. Glasses Black Input device Eyewear Thigh

Where do you source Kevlar string?

It's always blown my mind how expensive Silverstein ligs are.
Yes but how can expect anyone to get a great sound without paying out big bucks - we all know you get what you pay for :)

Here's another version. The plastic bit is a buckle from an old neck strap. In order to ensure equal tension in the loops I had to sand down the grooves on the buckle to ensure the string moves freely on it. I play tested it and altissimo G is stable and clear and bottom notes are effortless. Writing implement Office supplies Line Wood Material property

Where I live I get it from a fishing equipment shop. It is used to attach the spear on a spear gun.
Cabela's will carry that then. Okay you have me convinced. You are today's resident genius!!!

This is awesome!

Have you played an actual Silverstein lig?

Looking forward to seeing how all the shelter in place makes people creative and resourceful. It’s much more interesting when I’m on a gig/session and someone asks me about my gear to which I reply: “these are one of a kind prototypes.”
