Sorry, didn't know which forum to put this in. Anyways, I just noticed the classical saxophone forums were split up, and imho, it's not a good idea. What if someone wanted to ask about just classical saxophone in general? A general classical sax forum should be included at least. Also, what happened to the old classical sax archives? There was lots of good information on there (J. Max's index of classical mouthpieces). Anyways, this is just my opinion, that they should be changed back. Thanks.

My index thread has been stickied in that forum. The idea of splitting the forums has been addressed in the "French School" sub forum.

all i play is classical right now being in high school and all. it is dissapointing that there is not much "classical" talk around here. basically all i do here is discuss things that are actually unconventional for a classical saxophonists like altissimo and multiphonics. never do get much into classical............always trying to learn some odd things and many good things like circular breathing (which i did not get much help with from people, so im guessing not many people can circular breathe or even know about it because i got 2 replies on my thread about circular breathing......so eoooooooo). classical discussions would be good to have.........

There is a lot of classical music that involves altissimo, and at least some that involves multiphonics.

well my bad then i guess my school just doesnt own any music that has it..............i think my band director would not want to buy any music that has any of that because the "personel" might not be able to do it (that excludes me of course and a few others).
there was a jazz piece we were going to play in jazz band last year that had an A3 for me in it..........we didnt end up plating it unfortunately (not due to that note just that the jazz band as a whole wasnt going to be able to prepare the piece in time)

.....i would love to play a concert piece that has altissimo and/or multiphonics in it because i would totally jump on it like white on rice.

You can always find something (ask around here!) and play it for your state music contests, which I assume you have.

I have never heard of that so far but in high school we do have select band that is auditioned for to be in with music they provide for us. I think ill do ok and make it in because from what i know barely any tenor saxes try out for select band so its almost garunteed i get in........and ill just be that damn good when i perform my music in December.

and as for asking im asking now...........someone like....send me music or something please........im dying out here. nah nah just kidding.

If you're serious about saxophone, you should get ahold of Todd Yukumoto at University of Hawaii at Manoa. He studied at UT Austin with Harvey Pittel, and he also plays some jazz.

If he won't teach you, I bet he knows someone that would.

J. Max: Where did the archives go?
DeUtCheaxelplaya: usually in high school (for classical), you won't encounter music with altissimo and multiphonics. Most of the music that has it is really advanced. It's usually all modern music, and you'll have to seek it out yourself.

You've led a sheltered life.;)

I usually just peruse using the 'new posts' button. That way I always know where the action is.:D
