Hi guy,
The main difference ... Some would say:
1) one I
2) it's like the day and the night (in III favor)
3) better intonation, response and balance for the SIII

I don't know, I have never tried neither :D

I like my II. It has a darker sound. The ergonomics of the II leave something to be desired. I heard good and bad asbout the III on this forum. Never played a III.

From my brief experience with these instruments (I mainly play a curved Buescher now but played a Series II before then and have played on a Series III since, just for kicks) - I would say that the Series III has more consistent better intonation and a darker tone - same with II and III altos. The ergonomics are fine but they're heavy so you have to play with a strap. Of course the series III has neck options as well. If dark matters, you might consider trying a vintage soprano ;)

I like your link to your Erie Sax quartet rasherian!!!!Some real nice sounds there. And I agree the Selmer sopranos are heavy and need a strap.

I played a Series II soprano for about 4 years and just recently got a new Series III. In my experience, the III is brighter, has better intonation, far superior ergonomics, and responds better in the high range. Altissimo G on the II was resistant, but it pops out on the III. I can get up to a C, whereas I could get to an A on the II. It also sounds to me as though it blends better in quartets or other ensembles. Overall a better horn.

As for the weight thing, I play it with a strap but it just hangs loose. I usually play sitting (quartets) and I rest the bell on my knee. Problem solved :)
