I love the sound of the Lawton B metal tenor sax mouthpiece but have never played one. I see a Lawton BB listed now and then on Ebay and was wondering how much difference there is between the two of them. I would imagine that the BB is maybe brighter with a higher baffle. Would that be correct? Any Lawton players know?

I've got about 25 Lawtons SATB of various materials and models. The BB has a significantly higher baffle than the B and is much brighter. For me, the B is better because it is more flexible and the BB is hard to tame.

This is true (for me) of the standard Lawtons, but for his ICON model (mainly tenor but I also have one for alto) I find that the BB is more flexible and the brightness can be tamed.

Geoff Lawton also very occasionally had a BBB variant with an even higher baffle and presumably super-bright sounding.

Hope that helps
