ARGH......They also stopped making the good old two screw. The Selmer two-screw (with its thicker metal than the "USA" two-screws) and the 404 have been my most used/favorite ligatures over the last 30 years.

Why Selmer???? Why?????

I think theyndid and I dont know anyone who cares too much for the 402.
The 402 is what fits Guardala and a few other trim-line metal tenor pieces. I have one I use on these but it seems over the years more guys have gone to using Rovner style ligs on these pieces since that's what was shipped with a lot of them from WW&BW and are more easily available.

Personally I prefer nice two screw ligatures and it's getting very difficult to find ones in sizes outside the standard HR alto and tenor unless you're willing to pay $100+ for an Ishimori or Marc Jean.

The 402 is what I use on my Mosaic. I bottom out the threads on my (heavily used, probably stretched out) 404 when I try to use it on that mouthpiece with slimmer reeds like the Legere Signature.

It's a shame we are losing these ligatures from production, but I guess they must not have been selling well enough to keep them. I picked one up used for probably $20 on SOTW back in 2005 or so and have used it on my Link ever since. I bought one at Ishimori a couple of years ago for around $40 USD, so I have one ready for that mouthpiece when my well-worn one bites the dust, but it's a little frustrating to seemingly not have any options for a well-made basic two-screw ligature with nicely cut threads, high quality screws, durable material and properly-aligned threads and guides below the Ishimori price range.

I feel a little silly hoarding a bunch of old, basic Selmer two-screw ligs for various mouthpiece sizes, but here we are!

I don't know that they make me sound better than the dirt cheap two-screw ligatures available everywhere, but those threads feel a lot nicer to use and, for whatever reason, the edges don't cut into reeds like the cheap two-screws do. Plus, they look great!
