Been focusing on tenor but had sold my alto and accessories a while back and now miss it some. I'm in the market for a used older (late 20's - early 50's) american horn. Not sure what I'lll wind up with but could be any of the 4 major makes (Conn, Martin, Buescher or King). I have no alto mpc, so, what would be a good overall and relatively cheap one that I can buy up front, so, regardless of what I choose, I'll have something that can reasonably test out the horn and get an idea if I'm happy with it (some sellers offer 7 day trials)?

The other option is to get the horn first but then I'm waiting on a mpc which would be an issue if I do buy from a seller with a trial period, which would be wasting time away waiting for the mpc to arrive.

Thanks

I really don’t think that there is a mouthpiece to fit “ the American horn” , but I think that a Meyer may be a good choice, in general, but really there is no telling what that would do to you or to any of the brands that you may or may not choose.

Alternatively even the Yamaha plastric mouthpiece may probably offer you a cheap and good alternative.

Morgan "Vintage" is my choice for this (Vintage is their model name, not the age of the mouthpiece.)

Meyer #5 or #6. Yamaha 4C or 5C. Brilhart Ebolin. Selmer Soloist.
Two more low cost "entry level" mouthpieces are the Fobes Debut and the Hite Premier.
Those two replies combined would make up my shortist of good, inexpensive alternatives for vintage horns, yeah....I'd probably throw in a Link Tone Edge rubber, too.
(The Selmers actually may cause a bit of wonk, intonationally with some older horns, IMHO. The Yammies might sound a bit too generic/narrow).
