On Thursday night, December 15th, a reggae/ska band I joined recently will be opening up for the main act at Solly's Tavern in Washington, DC. We're only doing one set and it should start by 9pm, so don't be late if you want to hear this group. They're a bit younger than me and mainly play originals. This has been a lot of fun for me so far and I hope to get this group some regular gigs back in the hometown. But now we're playing where we can, so next stop is DC.

I posted one earlier today in another thread, but it's not the band I'll be appearing with on the 15th. It's one I sat in with that was missing their sax player on a night when my group had opened for them. The group I'm in now has some rough cuts of rehearsal recordings they made when I auditioned for them. My playing is probably a bit too busy on them than how I'm used to playing with them now, but it was my first time ever playing their tunes. Check out "Woman Loves You". Just keep in mind I was feeling the tune out, but it is a catchy original written by the guitarist. We're planning on getting some new recordings done before this gig though, and I'm sure these guys will post them online.

It's booked as "Bluebeat DC Ska Night". I'm not sure if Bluebeat is the name of the headlining band or not, as I didn't arrange the gig. I just recently joined these guys (The Dream Grenades) and it's my first time playing this gig with them in DC. We will be in Annapolis though for our own three set show Saturday night, February 18th at the Ebb Tide Tavern (that one I did arrange), and possibly at the Whiskey in Annapolis on Feb. 9th with a couple of other groups. Do you play in the Baltimore/DC area Buddy?

Any chances of some fresh video from tonight?

Sorry I can't make it - my jet is in the shop.

Sometimes these guys tape their shows... but I'm still waiting for the video from a show we did at the Whiskey a few months back that we had a really good crowd for. I'd be happy to share though if they do.

Thanks.

I'm gonna call my mechanic to see if I can get a rush job on the jet so I can make your gig tonight!

Sure enough... some of this show ended up online. This first one is an original written by the guitarist. For those who've accused me in the past of being a moldy fig, this may come as a surprise. For my notes on this one when learning the tune, I simply wrote "noise" for the solo section:

Then of course it being the holidays...

There are a couple other tunes from this gig you might find linked on youtube, but when I tried to post them, they kept referring back to the first song. Sound is muffled on them though.

That group was made for a sax man. Cool Grumps.
You could almost play anything and get away with it.

Your sound was typically buried in the 1st vid.
But the camera was probably too close to get the pa, and caught mostly stage sound.

Looks like fun.

And I pretty much do. :bluewink:

It's true though, what they do was meant for saxophone to join in. These guys have given me the freedom to just come in and add my own part. Works for me, and so far works for them too. I've challenged them to learn some covers though for a gig coming up in February where we'll be the only group, and we put kind of a unique spin on them.

Hey, if possible, post a couple of videos, Grumps.
I really love 'em.

It is one of my favorite things about sotw.... in the raw.
