Dave is playing his annual first weekend after Labor Day gig with his Welcome to Life band at the 55 Bar in NYC, 9/6-9/9. Includes Chris Potter, Scott Colley, Adam Rogers, Craig Taborn, and Brian Blade. If you haven't heard this live, then get off your A!# and treat yourself to a group of some of the hottest guys around. A must see!!!!

Dave has been out here to Rome, Italy quite often in recent years - I never to miss him and find him to be one of the most original, contemporary composers.

I'd love to see him in NYC!

Saw the second set on Friday night. Really nice writing. Just lovely melodies with this fantastic craftsmanship in shaping a real group sound. Binney and Potter were blowing great but their solo efforts were just slightly overshadowed by David's amazing forms. The rest of the band was smoking too; Blade and Colley just locked into such perfect grooves, Taborn worked his usual amazing rhodes magic and Rogers sounded much better than the last time I heard him (the Underground gig in boston a few months ago). A really great show.

I wish that guy would get some tour bookings. Someday I'll get back East to hear him, the Fringe, etc...

Hell! I have been listening to the "Bastions of Sanity" CD again.

What a fantastic album and what a great interpretation of Shorter's "Lester Left Town"!

Binney's compositions and sound really spell out a-l-t-o in my book!

cheers,
L.
