Ryo Noda's Mai

The program notes that go with it explain how the piece depicts the life of a
Shogun Warrior who struggles with the dillema of disgracing his family. He ultimately chooses to kill himself.

I'd go with Mai also. Dark, scary and with lots of cool technique.

I performed the Noda at a recital this weekend (not the one I was planning on playing it for, that's in may, this one just kinda came up.) It was a really interesting (and successful) performance.

The audience was split half and half. Half didn't know what to think, and the other half was really intrigued. There was uncomfortable laughter at times, and one lady even said something in the middle. It fit too; after the first altisimmo section she said "that's exactly how I feel!" and then I came in with the multi phonic stuff. It was kinda like, ok, thanks for sharing, now I'm going to musically punch you in the face for talking during my piece. It all kinda worked. I'll have a recording of it, but I almost wish I had a video of it just so I could watch the audience. Any other stories of performing this piece?
