Hi all, I'm trying to transcribe the sax solo from the old Eddie and the Cruisers song, On the Darkside, played by Michael "Tunes" Antunes.
Here's a link to the video:
I started transcribing into the key of C with the piano, because I can play it with headphones, for one thing, but the video may give some clues as to the actual notes on the tenor. As far as I know, the song is in the key of concert E major, which puts the tenor in the key of F#. So here's what I have so far in the key of C; does anyone know if I'm even close? I don't have much of an ear for this sort of thing apparently.
, c#E f# e g# g# , ,
c#. b a b c# e c# bc#bg
f# gf#e
If anyone has a better transcription for this already, please let me know and save me from myself. Thanks.

I have a few minutes to transcribe this for you (only heard it once so far but I think there is one note I can't hear). Do you have Sibelius? If not I think I can send as picture file but I'm not sure how to do it (writing the notes and the rhythms in letters is too long).

Sorry, I don't have Sibelius. I pm'ed you my email address, so hopefully you can send the picture directly and don't have to post it to the forum, which I also don't know how to do. I guess I could have done this with the smilies (concert E, 4 sharps):
:space3: :space4: :blankmea: :line5: :blankmea: :space4: :blankmea: :space5: :blankmea: :space5:
but it is still hard to tell the rhythms, and the administrators limit us to 10 smilies, and there is only one staff line above and below. I would put up the protest smilie, but I'm all out.

Thanks, got the file. I also found a decent midi of it here; I'll check your transcription against this and let you know if they agree, and then we can all debate which is "correct" if anyone cares:

which also includes the outro. I hadn't thought of using midi's as a resource before, but I found another thread on here which suggested it. Again all that is required (if the midi is any good) is transposition to the target instrument, which I find easy compared with playing by ear.

p.s., this thread probably belongs under transcriptions, not compositions; moderators feel free to move it, but I think we're done here.
