Hi,

~I am really sorry~

I am curious what will happen if I cut off the bell on my tenor saxophone, including the last tone hole. How will it affect the sound? Will it affect the playing?

Not intending to troll here, I am genuinely curious.

Thanks : )

i guess you could safely cut off the bell, but not the last tonehole (Bb). That would involve cutting keywork and probably fabricating new rods, etc. A clarinet is very playable with no bell. It only misses one note as a result.

It's a bit extreme, just to get more gigs at Jewish weddings.
I should not have read that with a mouthful of coffee, no I need to clean my laptop.

Nothing is new under the sun.

Unless you lengthen the tube after cutting it somewhat, the intonation of the last notes will certainly be affected.

The Academy Buescher went from C to C they still needed to have an open tonehole and some more metal, the bell may not have been necessary at that point.

Recently someone came up with a cut down version of a C soprano-ino, so no you aren't crazier than other people who did this already

Yeah, the 'simplified' sopranino.

The funny thing is that they already did that for the baritone saxes, cutting the low A parts to make the lighter low Bb baris ! :D

Wait...

It seems not everyone has my views about bari saxes history... ;)
Yes, my Keilwerth Bari was cutted by former owner (Red Pellini, a reputated italian jazzman) and transformed from lowA to lowBb
