My high E key has a hairline crack running from the middle all the way over the edge. There is also a shorter crack below it. How does this happen? Should I replace the key. I'm only having minor problems with the sax which I can play through and may or may not be because of the crack.

Well, you can see that it's actually two scratches. One of them kind of wraps around the edge of the key cup and the other one is "free-standing".

The solution to this problem is to ignore it. Objects finished in polished lacquered brass get scratches through the coating and the brass underneath tarnishes.
