Hi all,

Just found a great video of the Count Basie Alumni band playing at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Netherlands back in 1980. I was there as a 18 year old young jazz lover. The clip features the two tenor players Buddy Tate and Billy Mitchell.

It starts with an introduction of the musicians my Marshall Royal. The tune (Little Pony) starts at 1:35. The steaming solo of Buddy Tate starts at 3:28, with some typical Tate licks and his characteristic Berg Larsen sound. At 6:20 the great trumpetter Harry Edison (65 years old at this recording) plays a solo. The great solo of Billy Mitchell starts at 7:12. I especially like his ending starting at 10:20.

Enjoy!!!

Just came a along this great video at YouTube again and found out I already did post it back in 2011.

No reactions so far (!), but man, what could that Billy Mitchell get around the horn!

So here is a second change for those who don't know him that well (his great solo starts at 7:12):
