A few weeks ago I bought an old Tenor with "Symphonic" on the bell, "Made in Western Germany" and the No 11599 on the back.

From what I found on the web, it could be a Dorfler & Jorka (Dörfler & Jörka or Doerfler & Joerka) from Nauheim in Germany. They built their own Saxes with Keilwerth bodies from 1949 to 1968. They built Saxes with names like "Voss", "Roxy", "Skytone", etc.

Can anyone confirm, that my sax is a D&J? Do you have any experiences with these kind of instruments? What year could it be built? Any additional information?

Thanks for your help!

That is indeed what it is. Pretty horn. Should play well. Its basically a keilwerth new king with slightly different keywork. Don't know exactly when they were in business but I would guess late 40s - 50s?

Now I got an official confirmation by Keilwerth regarding my Dörfler & Jörka. Unfortunately, they did not keep any records on serial numbers (see german email encl.)

Has anybody an similar looking instrument with similar serial number but different engraving / name?

Sehr geehrter Herr Barell,

Despite this thread being nearly mummified ;), I'm hoping you will find it hastings...

Yes, I have a tenor very much like yours. It has a different name, mine is stamped De Villiers, but the serial numbers are very close. Mine has a lacquer finish.

If you find this thread, since me a PM.
