I've never seen (not that I've seen it all) an octave vent at an angle like this. Is this a manufacturing error?

No, it's based on the angle of the key arm. If the vent were perpendicular to the wall, the arm would be 5-8 mm too long.

Why it was designed that way is anyone's guess.

Given how off center the tube is on the pad, it seems to me like if the tube were centered on the pad it would be nearly perpendicular to the socket.

I mean it kind of looks like the hole was drilled in the wrong place and they soldered the tube in at an angle so it could just barely meet the pad.

Same off center holes but octave vent never gave me any issue
