Could anyone who has a Couf or same vintage Keilwerth bari check to see if its upper octave vent is angled like this? I'm guessing this is mis-manufactured but would love to see what anyone else's looks like...

You likely have seen this by now, but in case you haven't--or for those who are looking for the info in the future--here is my Superba II's....

Edit: I will get a photo of the inside of the socket later today. I realize now you were not talking about the misalignment of the octave key on the outside, but rather the pip on inside of the socket.

So the answer to your question is: They are both angled, so no, not a manufacturing error. That's the way they were intended.

Mine plays fine. Everything is perfect. Only problem is I can't use a Hodge's silk bari pigtail cleaner on the horn, since the pip protruding on the inside is very rough, and rips the sh*! out of the swab....

One solution I can recommend if you have access to the pip on the inside is to use craft sanding sticks to smooth and polish the rough edges. My favorite sticks are made by Stevens International in Canada which are a bit hard to find in the states. Stevens International Sanding Sticks

OK, here is the inside of the socket....
Wow! Have to say I'm surprised but glad to see that it's not anything amiss. Nice shiny black horn! BTW I have no idea what's different between the I and the II. I don't have F# or anything I don't think that a II doesn't have. Thanks for taking the pic:)

Thanks! I will check with my tech and see if he can order some. (Since I work for him now as his Education Rep. I have a bit of an "in". ) ;)

You're most welcome for the pic. Not all Superba I baris have a high F# key. Some do. It was an option that was available. The lowest serial # I have documented so far for one is #90929.

One area where Superba I and II baris varied was in a key guard for the chromatic F# key. The Superba I had a key guard, while the II did not. Why? Who knows????

Tsk, Tsk, tsk...;) Not knowing the differences between a I and a II. I know I haven't finished the Couf sections of my site yet--taking the job with my tech as his Education Rep has really slowed my work on my website down to a crawl ;) --but here is some info for you. Keep reading down from there.

FYI: The baris are among the hardest to research, since there are fewer of them around, and they seemed to have changed a fair amount over the Couf production run. I am likely going to hit you up for some pics and info to put into my Excel spread sheet on the brand. I'll send you a PM about it a bit later.

I'll watch for it:) And yes I need to take some good pics which I'll do before I add any palm key risers. Thanks:)
