I recently picked up a Florida Link USA metal bari mouthpiece.

Plays nice. However, it seems a bit too wide for most of my bari reeds.

I know that bass clarinet reeds are a bit wider than tenor reeds and you can use a bass clarinet reed on a tenor sax mouthpiece.

Does the same hold for contrabass clarinet reeds on a bari mouthpiece?

Are they "just a bit wider?"

Can you use contrabass clarinet reeds on an extra-wide bari mouthpiece?

Thanks,

Mark

I've used contra reeds on bass sax. The main difference seems to be the length of the cut, rather than the blank, which is about the size of a bari reed. Maybe a mm or two wider.

You can get bass sax reeds for no more money than contra, and they'll work on most bari mouthpieces.

Yes, I can confirm that Vandoren bari reeds are indeed wider than other cane reeds. (by almost 1 mm compared to Ricos). Rigotti is about in between. As for synthetics, I find Legere almost as wide as Vandoren. Fibracells are probably the narrowest. Not a problem for most bari mpc except for Vandoren mpcs. My AL4 is really quite wide and will only take Vandoren or Legere.
