I'm looking for recommendations of things you know will fit. Right now I am considering Protec XL and Gator GL.

Also has anyone tried the Cannonball contoured cases? What is their pricing like?

I haven't tried the Cannonball contoured case, but they look nice. If they are as good at protecting the horn as the big rectangle, then they are worth it. When I got tired of carrying around the faux alligator beast, I got an SKB 450. Worked very well...I am speaking of tenor only.

I was able to buy a CB contoured case to fit the large bell on my Buescher TH&C alto a few years ago. The CB case was for the CB big-bell horns, so it worked great . . . still have it.

But after that, several inquiries here on SOTW led me to recommend contacting Jim Scimonetti's store to buy one. Jim has since sold his store and it moved, but the sad news from him at that time was that CB was not selling their cases separately any longer.

That may have changed since then, but I'd make sure they are available before committing to one. DAVE

Thanks Dave, do you remember the price range? Was it comparable to a ProTec?

Kinda . . . somewhere around $150 at the time - memory fades. Yes, it was comparable to a ProTec. I have several ProTec cases for altos and sopranos - they work fine for me. I don't know if the CB line of horns is much different from most of the other modern horns (save for the big-bell models) so I'd guess the CB horns would fit in a ProTec. I have vintage, 1930's and modern styled altos in ProTecs. DAVE

Alan,
I have the Rheuben Allen cases for my Stone Series alto and tenor. The tenor case is about 200, the alto about 185. But they have some alto cases on special (this is what I bought first) for THE crazy low price of $72.25. The are 2nds because the mouthpiece slot was made too shallow to fit a mouthpiece. I use it for an extra ligature, tooth saver, or a FL smart cap. Still plenty of storage in the other compartment. I keep the fat neck neck in the bell, and the standard neck in the storage w/a mouthpiece underneath.

I was all set to get those Rheuben Allen cases, but decided to give my Hiscox cases one more try. They are snug, but they fit, so I guess I am set for now.

FWIW, I got the chance to try my tenor in a new Protec case, and it didn't fit well. If I were going Protec, I'd definitely need the XL.
