Good guess. Some of them are marked Bonacio Steel-Lay, and I met Bennie Bonacio, who designed the mouthpiece in the early 1970s. He was in his 70s at the time, so I think your estimate is correct.
Bruce: Rosy McHargue, a noted C-Mel player and clarinetist who played in many of the "studio" dixieland bands in the '50's (Pete Dailey, Red Nichols, etc.) used a Steel Lay on his C-mel. I never got the story on it, though. DAVE
I was rooting through a box of old mouthpieces looking for something to put on an alto I was selling and found a Conn Precision mouthpiece that was quite good too.
