Does anyone know of a Conn engraving art gallery (online)?
Specifically, old artist series gold plated models?

I came across this...
http://momie.org/cgconnartistengravedportraitinstruments.html

But is certainly not up to date as I have seen many in the last few months that are not included.
I remember a thread where Milandro has counted many more than on this site.

If there is no other, I might just set one up, but cross ref it to model/serial range while I am at it to put them in order and see progression of the art.

Mostly custom work in the Banks book, and mostly brass instruments, as they were the focus of Conn research thru the 20th century (and Peggy Banks the leading historian in that niche.)

If you have tips for getting the best engraving photos, please feel free to share with us. I never quite get the best clarity even with good lighting and macro focus.

I think one needs to keep the surroundings opposite the horn pretty plain to cut down on reflections. Maybe even use a sheet or backdrop behind the camera.

Great project, but can you be a bit more specific?

- are you looking for only ladies engravings or by etc you meant all kinds of artist engravings as well? including stock 10M's or only interested in artistic ones?
- any guidance on how you'd like the pictures to be taken? close-ups of the engraving only?
- as asked above, any guidance on lighting or background to make engraving come out?

It'd be great also to let us know how you are going to present this information. If you have a mockup of your webpage, that'd help. I suggest you don't publish the entire serial numbers (and be clear about this) as many are sensitive to sharing this information.

thanks!

Best to use black or white solid background if possible. Sunlight is best (any lighting in most folks homes is going to cause glare. Highest resolution possible. Portrait direction.

Any engraving post the “general floral years” if you know what I mean.

M series “naked ladies” too, want to see how they evolved over time. Especially 26/30 M as these were very different.

Focus on ladies in general but other “portraits” as well.

Took a bunch of tries, but came up with some decent shots of my "late transitional" alto. It's got the swivel thumbrest. If you click the picture it should go to my Flickr with some more shots.

Along with a good circular/variable polarizer. You do have to watch for color shift when using one though.

Platform has been selected.
Going to do some work on photo formatting and getting galleries set up with a few of the pics I do have.
I will start a new thread with official request at the top so it does not get lost inside a thread (like this one).
This will be a 'rainy day' work project for me, so will need a week or two to start amassing pics....

Quick and exciting update on this project....
This project is a GO!
I will have a very cool announcement soon on just exactly how this gallery will come to fruition.
Working on layout and lots of different ways to access pics (chronologically, via theme, silver, lacquer, horn model, etc).

Stay tuned, this is real!
