Are any of you aware of a stolen Chu Berry alto with the serial number 21x,xxx ?

The price it was available for seemed low.

Why do you think it might be stolen? These things are only a little less common, and only a little more expensive, than Buescher True Tone altos.

Not many vintage American horns pass through my region, but in the past couple of years, I've seen at least two Chu altos in need of overhaul for under US$200. I don't believe they were stolen. Tried to grab 'em, but was too slow.

Just the price. I wanted to do my best to make certain that it wasn't.

I would call the local police to inquire. SotW may have the ultimate answers to a lot of questions (best mouthpiece, best tone, original lacquer, etc.) but should not be considered final arbiter of stolen property.
