I'm in 8th grade and the director of the CMC college band asked me to join the college jazz band because they're Baritone sax player graduated. Any tips? Thanks,

This is a great opportunity for you.

Stick to the basics: make sure your chops are in good shape for the first rehearsal, do some extra sight-reading practice between now and then, make sure you show up ahead of start time, etc. If the director has asked you to join, they must have already decided they do not have a student in their college who could fill the position......so that would mean you are both wanted and needed.

At least one other student in the band will probably say something to try to rattle you, based on your age, but they might not really mean anything by it - they might be the type of person who does not know how to avoid saying such things. Ignore any such person and let your horn do your talking.

I am jealous of your opportunity. Enjoy!
Tokyo Jazz Beat,
did you attend your first rehearsal yet with the college jazz ensemble? If so, how did it go?
