I know this may be a long shot.... but I acquired about 25 years ago, a C-Melody Sax with embossed on the case (see image) “Charles Porter’s Melody Boys” and then under it, “Chas. T. Porter.

Has anyone ever heard of this individual or group? My attempts to locate any information online have not been successful in any way. I am presuming it is a horn that belonged to a member of a neighborhood group of some sort who just “fancied up” their case(s).

But, I thought I would ask all of you... just in case anyone has heard of him/the group. It would be fun to know a backstory to this horn.

Thank you for any thoughts you may wish to share.

Darn. It looks like there is no further knowledge about this person or his group. I was hoping for an interesting backstory to tell.... but it looks like information about Charles T. Porter and his Melody Boys has probably been lost to the ethos.

Still.... I enjoy having the horn.... and Porter’s embossed case as well.

Well, there were hundreds if not thousands of small dance bands in the 1920s, in every town and city except the very smallest. Few of them would have left any evidence of their existence here a hundred years on except the occasional business card found in a case, or an old Kodak Brownie photo in someone's photo album.
