Very tasty playing. Great sound. The only thing that totally ruins it for me is the extreme left/right channel shifting of the keyboard. It's an effect that instantly makes me physically ill whenever I hear it. I'm sure it's a physiological thing of some sort, like the way lights flashing at a certain speed can cause some people to have seizures. Fantastic sax playing though.

I don't usually hard-pan keyboard tremolo like that because it sounds weird to me, but I honestly didn't notice it on my cheapo home theater speakers. Now that I'm listening for it, I hear it. I bet it would have jumped out at me on the monitors or headphones, but it doesn't ruin it for me. The strings sound NICE! The arrangement is uber-hip and still sounds great, and the playing is great. He has that Meyer New York shine to the sound.

The strings do sound surprisingly nice, and I'm sure that keyboard effect was intensified by the fact that I was listening through headphones. It gave me an instantaneous feeling of motion sickness. It's definitely a great arrangement otherwise.

An ancient thread but I keep coming back listening to this version of "Sentimental mood".. Normally I'm in to a darker bebop alto sound but Charles' sound is just stellar! Dan, any info what mouthpiece he's playing?
