After months of waiting for the special order, my new CE Winds Artist Series Pro Bari was finally ready for me to pick up today! I have only had it for a few hours, but I was able to spend some time with it at the CE Winds showroom and it is fantastic!

I've had a YBS-62, an 84XXX Mark VI and a Serie II bari and the CE Winds is easily as good a bari if not better! It's built like a tank and looks like it's made to last.

I was especially impressed with the upper register. It really sings all the way up to the top. The low register was excellent as well, but the upper register usually seems to be lacking on baris. Not on this horn!

The tech that they use to set up their horns is somewhat of a Selmer snob, but after setting up my bari and playing it, he is actually getting one for himself to use instead of his Serie II.

Here's a pic: Musical instrument Light Reed instrument Brass instrument Wind instrument

This is a stock pic, but it looks just like this one, minus the engraving. I chose to get it unengraved so I can have a custom job done later.

I can't wait to spend some more time with it and I'll try to post some audio clips when I get a chance.

From the stock photo, I appears your bari has the Dark Satin finish- is that correct? I recently sold both my YTS-62 and my YAS-62 for CEWinds Pro DS tenor and alto(alto is due in December). Beautiful finish and great tone! Marvelous horns that are, like you said, at minimum comparible to the "big" guys. Just curious: why did you pick the DS finish? I'm sure you enjoy the new bari!

I was at my tech trying the same model and found that it was quite robust as well. It's my understanding that the goal was a solidly built horn with great tone. I didn't have my mouthpiece with so i couldn't play it but I hold it and run down the key work. It felt great and was at least as heavy as my yamaha 61.

i'd love to know how you feel about after a couple months of playing it.

Yes, it's the Dark Satin finish. It's really beautiful, however, most of the people I've shown it to (not sax players) say that it looks like it's made of plastic! Oh well, I think it's cool. I chose that finish because I've kind of always wanted a horn with that finish ever since the reference 54 came out but I was scared to get a tenor like that because I was afraid I would get tired of it. The bari is mostly for studio work and I only play it out at certain gigs so I didn't think I would get tired of it. The Dark Satin finish definitely draws attention and is quite the conversation piece.

Really loving the look of that Bari. I'm hoping to have a bari sometime in the future. Probably have to wait for next tax season :)

I've gotten the same "looks like it's made of plastic" comment often with my Pro DS tenor too! I'm not nearly as concerned with looks as sound and tone, but I just happen to love the looks, sound, tone and quality! I can't wait for my Pro DS alto Brian says will arrive next month. A CE bari someday? I'd love it but right now I don't have the call for it or the money to buy. So I'll look for sound clips from guys like you who have one. Take care. Enjoy. Tom

I have had my DS bari for about 18 months now, and it is still the greatest. I have owned Keilwerth and Mauriat baris before this, and have played Selmers and Yanis and Yamahas as well. This one is the best, with the Mauriat a close second. For the money, there is no equivalent. I also have DS soprano and tenor, and always get complements on the look and the sound. I bought them for the sound- they are the darkest of the CEW models. I have a DSV alto on order, because I like a bit more resonance on alto. It's really up to you. Mark and Brian are easy to work with, and honest. CEW is the easiest purchase decision out there!

Just got back from a tour in Southeast Asia, and the locals flipped out over these horns. Mark and Brian- look for some orders from India for sure!
