So I started to clean up my Cavalier metal clarinet this morning and noticed it has a tiny "PAT. PEN'G." stamped on the body by the F#/C# key cup, directly between the posts. Does anyone know what patent that is for?

Also, what is the difference between a 92N and the 98N? By the SN mine is a 92N.

What is the patent number ? Look it up. 92n, Model? I think Cavalier is a Conn stencil. If you find anything on the middle or lower grade metal clarinet let me know. Not much out there. As usual high end models you can find information on. I have a Bettoney Cadet and a Horton Collegiate.

Could be anything, including a design patent on the styling of the engraving of the emblem.

That's what I'd like to know! It just says "PAT PEN'G". My Silva-bet says Patent Pending, and there are many many posts about the dating on that (between 1/31/1927 filing and the 3/29/1929 grant). Finding info on these old student metal claries is always a crap shoot. Like you say, no interest out there. It's the same trying to research my HN White "American Standard". It has a weird alpha-numeric SN, but there is absolutely no info out there, just people asking questions that never get replies.

Yes I do know about that thread. I've even posted on it.

It's amazing how many of the entry level or lower grade instruments still exist. Yet there is practically no information because they are not the holy Grail of instruments. I have a Bettoney metal clarinet and a Bettoney flute that are Exactly 11 serial numbers apart. Essentially made the same day. Not one drip of information available. One member was able to tell me early 30s. WOW
