Greetings! I'm looking for a case for a vintage tenor sax. Ideally, I would prefer a hard case so as to provide the horn with the best protection, but I'm wondering if this horn would even fit into a modern hard case. Do you know of any new hard cases that tend to fit vintage horns well?

If a hard case won't do, what do you recommend in the way of soft cases? I was checking out a Gard leather gig bag in the store recently and liked that the foam in this make of soft case felt especially thick and protective compared to other soft cases I looked at. Are there others I should take a look at?

Thanks so much for your thoughts!

All best,
Noah

Protec makes cases to fit vintage horns; both contoured and rectangular. They're not exactly hard, but they're not exactly soft either. Decent protection at a fair cost, but not like the hard cases you might have had in mind. For those, seek out a company called DEG.

What kind & vintage of horn? Also - does it have opposed bell keys - or are they on they same side?

Makes a big diff..

Noah, you have to tell us if there are keys and key guards on the L.H. side of the sax. If there are not, probably most modern cases will do. If there are, then ProTech, Berkeley, Gator formed cases will likely fit your sax.

My advice would be to order a case from a retailer that has a return policy just to make sure you don't get stuck with a case that doesn't fit your sax.
