Guys I have a dilemma.

I'm keen to get my purchase back to Australia but need some measurements. It turns out that the dimensions of a Tenor case are such that they are very close to the cutoff for USPS's basic service (79" maximum for 'length plus girth'). Any other service is just prohibitively expensive which means I will need to wait until my colleague or myself to be travelling to / from the USA.

So I need accurate dimensions.

If it is a Martin Indiana stencil then presumably the case will be the same (and should be obvious from the photo). If any of you have one (vintage 1955 or thereabouts) could you please measure the dimensions for me? Also if not too difficult take a weight measurement (though that's not so important since it is the lenth + girth limitation that is the limiting factor).

Your probably wondering why I don't just get someone to measure it - problem is it is in storage and the person looking after it for me is on the road most of the time.

My original case measures 33"L x 7.5"D x 13" H counting the handles. which would make it 74" girth. Even one inch of padding on each side of the case would put it over the 79". Another possibility would be to sent the horn without case packed VERY well and send the empty case alone. Always a problem. My case is the one that looks like this: https://flic.kr/p/5815689109

The case does indeed look very similar. Is the case quite strong? How do you think it would travel if a decent couple of layers of bubble wrap were wrapped directly around the case without a cardboard box? That would probably keep the dimensions within the limit and provide a fair amount of protection to sudden knocks and bumps. IMO an additional cardboard box would not offer much additional resistance to crushing anyway.

Strong case. The handles extend at least an inch so I think packing the inside of the case well then putting about an inch plus of large bubble wrap may be the only way.
