Hey folks. I've been looking around at prices for a Cannonball Tenor (Brute) getting prices. This is more of an FYI for those interested. I'm down in south Texas and the going price for these are between $3,200 and $3,400. Not sure how they fare around the country for being sold new. I know some people are wondering about prices sometimes. Just FYI. Later.

I was just in Clearwater on vacation and the Cannonball tenors were I think $3100 for BBSS but only $2800 for vintage reborn and key series.

I know L and L Music in Gaithersburg, Maryland sells them. They usually have a Christmas sale and sell these for a decent discount. L and L needs to be very competitive on price because Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center is located a short drive away. Chuck Levin does not sell Cannonball, but they sell lots of other horns at very good prices so L and L keeps their prices low so that they can survive in the DC market. I am pretty sure if you call L and L and ask for Steve, the owner, he will give you a fair price.

I am not sure what the final price ends up being. I am pretty sure that if you negotiate with them you will get a good deal. If I recall correctly, in the past they have offered 30% off on new horns. However, that is off of a higher price than one would pay normally when they are not running the sale. For example, if the horn has a suggested retail price of $3000, they may normally sell it for $2500, but with the sale it would be $2100. I am just making these numbers up to demonstrate my point. I would call and try to negotiate. You can often get a good deal even if they are not running a sale just by talking to them. Realize they need to make money so have an idea of what a realistic price is and then negotiate from there.

That is about 200 bucks more than what I paid for my Brute alto last year. Prices are going up quick.

Not going up at all. I could have purchased a brute finish for $200 less.

Really. I paid $200 more because I liked the finish on the anniversary edition. That says a lot about me. I've never claimed to be the sharpest pencil in the box.

I just picked up a used in mint condition unlaquered Alto big bell for 1500. The deals are out there

That's sounds like a great deal. A friend recently paid $1500 for a used Cannonball student model. It is in excllent condition which is rare for a student model.

Just a thought: You can get a lot of wonderful vintage (and / or modern used) saxophone for that price...

Selmer Paris minty SA80's - MKVI's also crop up from time to time in that price range. King S20's can be had for $3k or so...Solid Bueschers, Martins, and Conns can be found for substantially less, leaving you enough dough for a nice mic or two...

There's a music store near me that is a Cannonball dealer. About once a year (or so) I go in and play what they have just to see - I don't recall the prices, but I do know I'm never unhappy with my vintage saxophone(s) after a trip to play the Cannonballs...
