WOW!!!! Thank you so much. What great human beings. Maceo and Candy really click together. what a beautiful people they are-- I loved hearing all those anecdotes about his time with J.B., how he got the job, and that bit about everybody in Africa thinking that "Maceo" was a greeting really killed me. I saw J.B. and the Famous Flames in Albuquerque in the early 80's in a small club on the West Mesa. I was 2 feet from the small stage that they all had to squeeze onto. Maceo and the band were tighter than tight and J.B. sweated his butt off as always. Even though he had very little space to dance in he still managed to do his mike-drop split a whole bunch of times. It's a memory that is up there with the best.
Candy is one great saxophonist too, it really grabbed me when she started to play. She's got such a deep mellow tone and great phrasing. She sounds like she is playing tenor, not alto. Does anyone know her setup? Her playing here reminded me of her great work on the Van Morrison live in S.F. concerts. Speaking of which, if you go to the address shown in the closing credits,
www.candymeets.tv, there is a streaming video of Van Morrison coming in and having tea with her and then the two of them begin playing together. Unfortunately it is only a 10 second clip and since the whole website is in Dutch I have no idea how to see more of this interview. Does anyone else know?
Is it really true that you can't download the Maceo interview because even though I bookmarked it I fear that it will not be up forever. Does Anyone know a way?
BTW, I couldn't view this on firefox because it needs to download an active-x control for WMA 11 but then says it is unavailable. So I opened it on IE and naturally it plays fine. Mozilla is much more restrictive because it protects you more.
