Today the second episode of Candy's TV show was on, this time Candy meets Maceo Parker. Again the voice over is in Dutch but most of the show is in English.
Right below the player you can click 200% or the full screen (volledig scherm) button. Enjoy.

That's great. Thank you. What a nice guy and i thought she really got a lot out of the interview too, which i guess might be partly because he (rightly) has a lot of respect for her as a musician. Plus - WHAT A BABE SHE IS!!!!

I second that. Thanks so much for the link. I had no idea Maceo was such a beautiful human being. I had the fortune of seeing him live four times. Maceo is no question the king of funk. How could he not be? He was schooled by the best, James Brown.

Thanks so much for that! Unfortunately, on my Mac, Safari doesn't give me a full screen or 200% option. Is there a way to download the video? Also, is the first episode available online?

Thanks,

Frank

Hey thanks a lot Grumpie! That was really refreshing. For anyone interested, there is a documentary out called "My First Name is Maceo". I saw it at an art movie house here about 10 years ago and it goes into a different kind of detail.

At any rate...what a pair of really nice people. And I'm really impressed with Candy. Not only was this put together really well, but man, she really speaks good Dutch, too.

Frank, I checked the networks website and they stopped using real streams in 2006 and only use the Windows media Player format. So no downloads with the RealPlayer 11 possible. As for the Mac / Firefox / Safari users the websites says to use a Quicktime and Flip4Use combination and there seems to be a possibility with Safari / Rosetta.

The first episode was with Sheila E

I only think these clips will be on youtube if someone has recorded the show, these are now only on the official networks website.

Hope you guys get things running.

There are some more shows to come so I will check next sunday if the show is put on the web again and post the link here.

WOW!!!! Thank you so much. What great human beings. Maceo and Candy really click together. what a beautiful people they are-- I loved hearing all those anecdotes about his time with J.B., how he got the job, and that bit about everybody in Africa thinking that "Maceo" was a greeting really killed me. I saw J.B. and the Famous Flames in Albuquerque in the early 80's in a small club on the West Mesa. I was 2 feet from the small stage that they all had to squeeze onto. Maceo and the band were tighter than tight and J.B. sweated his butt off as always. Even though he had very little space to dance in he still managed to do his mike-drop split a whole bunch of times. It's a memory that is up there with the best.

Candy is one great saxophonist too, it really grabbed me when she started to play. She's got such a deep mellow tone and great phrasing. She sounds like she is playing tenor, not alto. Does anyone know her setup? Her playing here reminded me of her great work on the Van Morrison live in S.F. concerts. Speaking of which, if you go to the address shown in the closing credits, www.candymeets.tv, there is a streaming video of Van Morrison coming in and having tea with her and then the two of them begin playing together. Unfortunately it is only a 10 second clip and since the whole website is in Dutch I have no idea how to see more of this interview. Does anyone else know?

Is it really true that you can't download the Maceo interview because even though I bookmarked it I fear that it will not be up forever. Does Anyone know a way?

BTW, I couldn't view this on firefox because it needs to download an active-x control for WMA 11 but then says it is unavailable. So I opened it on IE and naturally it plays fine. Mozilla is much more restrictive because it protects you more.

@Jazz is all,
I'm using the latest RealPlayer to download the videostreams but that isn't working with these clips. There is a chance these clips are online for a long time, it's a special website from the broadcasting network and they put a selection from all kinds of tv programs on it. There are a lot older streams from various programs.

Candy's show is on Dutch television every sunday at 17.45 and the show with Maceo was online within two hours after the show. Next week is the one with Van Morrison and as soon as it's online I get the link posted here.

As for Candy's setup, she used to play her VI with a Saxworks mouthpiece but she's playing an Inderbinen with a Lebayle now (o.k. she apperently dropped the Inderbinen on the kitchen floor and after Picking up the pieces it should be out for repair I guess).

I really like how they try to show the people behind the musician in the 30 minutes they have for the show. Nice to here Maceo's mother told her kids the same thing about smoking and drinking like lots of parents do.......Maceo actually listened to her :)

Some might even say Maceo taught a lot to James Brown also. I saw Maceo HOB about 7 years ago. What a killer show that was, he is the king of funk saxophone period. I think saying Maceo dominates alto funk is as true as saying Bird dominated Alto Be-bop.

That seems like a cool show Candy has. David Sanborn's night music is still the best music show ever IMO. Go on youtube and search David Sanborn Night Music. So many great sax players to be seen. From Sonny Rollins to Phil Woods, to Pharoh Sanders, etc etc etc etc. You can really find some great stuff from that show.

Candy has been great for the world of saxophone. She has inspired many girl to drop the flute, pick up a sax and take the boys on. I see more young girls playing Sax in the local HS and Junior HS then I was a kid that is for sure.

Thanks Grumpie

Thanks Grumpie :D for the infor on Candy and her setup too. I only wish the websites were in English too, cause Nederlands is Greek to me. They stopped speaking it in New York about 300 years before I was born. I would have liked to understand what was written and click some of the buttons on the streaming page but had no idea what they were. I am waiting eagerly for the interview with Van the Man, which from the clip should be equally as great as the one with Maceo. And, I dug his mom too cause she is surely one of the reasons why he is such a grounded, focused, warm human being.

You can record streams using VLC media player (free to download)
Here's a link to download VLC:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Here's a tutorial I found showing you how to record streams using VLC:
http://forum.videohelp.com/topic316907.html

You have to remember to specify a file - press the browse ' button ' to find a directory where you want to save the output file and type in the name of the file, such as e.g "candymeetsmaceo.asf" . The quality might be slightly less that when you watch in the browser. You have to let the movie run its entire length. Then just close VLC, and you should have the video for keeps.
