I have a Java T55

http://shop.weinermusic.com/VANDOREN-JAVA-TENOR-SAXOPHONE-HARD-RUBBER-MOUTHPIECE/productinfo/MVTJ/

I won't use my Eddie Daniels ligature anymore and right now I'm using an old Selmer lig that works pretty good. I want a new ligature, so I thought I'd try a Vandoren. However, the only tenor ligatures that Vandoren seems to have on the market are the Optimum Series, which aren't marketed to fit the Java.

So, I don't want to order the lig if it isn't made for the mouthpiece. What does that leave me with??? I know there's a lot of ligs out there.. I was over my saxophone tech's house, and he had a several used ligatures, but none fit.

What about the Bois Excellente? Will it fit?

Anyone own this mouthpiece? I don't want a synthetic ligature.. I want metal, but I just can't seem to find a metal ligature that I know will fit.

François Louis Ultimate Ligatures in Extra Large (XL) will fit perfectly. I use one on my Jumbo Java, which is externally the same as the regular Java.

+1 for the Vandoren Optimum Ligatures. On that link, they might just be out of stock on the Tenor HR ones. I have a tenor optimum for HR pieces. So they're definitely somewhere. Try Weiner Music. Or your local store! That's where I got mine.

I had a couple of these and they came with a stock Vandoren 2 screw which (IMO) is way better than the Optimum and is made to fit the T55

The model number is LC18M, a search for Vandoren LC18M should turn up a few places where you can buy ine,e.g.

They aren't cheap for a 2 screw but they are a great lig and designed for that mouthpiece.

I'm not playing HR on tenor, but I'd go with a plain Selmer single screw on top lig. Best value and look for the ££. Is this the one you have ?

^^ The Selmer I have is a double screw. What are players preferring these days.. single or double screw?

@ Pete thanks for the link.. I might buy that one. I'm just trying to decide if it matters single or double screw. I tested a lig (can't remember the name) for my bari that was just a "sleeve" .. it didn't have any screws, similar to the Bois. It seemed ok.

Does anyone have an opinion on single or double screw? It's all preference. The Francois are kinda funky looking. I might buy it though...

I use a Rovner for hard rubber tenor on mine. Tried a Francois Louis L that fit nicely as well.
