I have scored a Martin HC Committee serial #126,5xx it will need to be rebuilt
soon. I will like to set it up to play straight and smooth jazz, mouthpiece and pads.I would like a HR and Metal
mouthpiece recommendation. I read on this site these horns need .160 pads which ones or types are best for this project.
I listen to Kirk Whalum,Grover,Richard Elliot,Euge Groove,Joshua Redman,Michael Breaker,George Garzone,
Sonny Rollins. Also Ballads Bright but not too bright.

Opinions Wanted

Thanks in Advance!

If you like the brighter sound, Dukoffs work very well on Martins, along with pretty much anything else. They are very mouthpiece friendly. Just try a bunch of stuff, starting with what the guys you like play.

I get the feeling here these horn are not to be used with bright or semi-bright mouthpieces. Hate Dukoffs (D8)just sold mine on ebay. Also didn't like Berg 100/1 M it also when on ebay both have new homes now. I'm playing on a Meyer 8 M sound good but need more, also maybe too small for me.

Maybe something HR thats full sounding and brights up when pushed.
JJ HR, Morgan,Runyon,RPC..????

Thanks

I played an RPC on my Martin once and it sounded really good. It was a BRIGHT mouthpiece too.

Just wondering, have you played or owned a Martin before?

The reason I ask, is that you seem to have formed some opinions on Martins already. If ou are basing your opinions just on "hearsay" or things you've read here, wait until you've had the chance to try a few different setups for yourself before you make your mind up.

I play a Comm I tenor. As Martinman said, I've found it to be pretty tolerant of a wide variety of mouthpieces. The Comm I is a relatively dark sounding horn, so contrary to your "feeling," you'll find many players match their Martin with a brighter mouthpiece, especially for Rock type gigs.

I use a modified Link and it works well, but as I said, try for yourself and see what works.

A standard Otto Link would work fine, as would many other pieces (as stated above). I personally use a Morgan 7L on my HC Committee II and am very happy with that.

I own a Martin Standard Special Stencil which I love, I'm new to Martin so I have not formed a opinion yet. I don't have enough information or experience for that...as I say "feeling" based of my lurking (reading, setups etc.) here.

Link seems to be panacea here,I have a naturally bright sound so the Comm I
will be welcome here (waiting for it)...just try to find what direction to go.

I'm was Keilwerth man before coming to Martin I thought they would be similar
I like what I'm hearing from my Martin...I'll get there.

Thanks
