The seller of this says it is a La Monte Superior.

The photos don't show the engraving and there is no other info given about it so I am going to ask him. However, meanwhile I would love to figure out what it is. I checked some old threads about saxes called La Monte and there seem to have been a number of different ones with that name, all supposedly made in Italy. However, from what I read or saw, they all had left-hand bell keys and this obviously doesn't.

I have not done any sax-feature comparisons for a long time so I can't really identify it, but maybe someone else here can. Thanks.

I just found this alto and tenor with the same name in separate ads on Ebay. Look very much the same to the one I am looking at. However, what I would like to know is who made these and when. Some sites say they were made by Orsi, but it doesn't seem to be a definite fact. Or maybe I am wrong. And of course I would love to know if these are any good as players in terms of intonation, key action, and sound quality. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, thanks for the input, but were the ones you played like these with the RH bell keys or the ones with the LH ones?

These two E-bay ones really appear to be Orsi stencils, but I haven't gotten confirmation of that yet. If they are and sound like these two Orsi tenors this man is playing on youtube I wouldn't say that they are totally junk.

Lamonte's were made by Orsi, Italy.

They are not 'complete junk'. But Orsi basically aimed for the middle and student market, so they do not compare with some Borganis or Grassis of similar vintage.

But when set up correctly, they are respectable enough players. Really beautiful, warm tone, and their build was pretty sturdy.

All in all, a decent enough find if the Alto costs $300-350 or a Tenor $500-600.

Thanks Jaye, I knew it couldn't be total crap just from the looks of it.
