By the way, in my opinion it is a great book to study from. Doesn't write everything down, so it makes you use your ears ... and your brain :)

The metronome indications should really be followed. Don't move on to a new exercise until you are comfortable with the one you are working with at the upper range of the metronome reccomendation. In this way, you will have less frustration with the things that follow as the book does rely upon a very solid foundation. I like to use BIAB (Band-in-a-box) backgrounds as my metronome when working with it.
