Was given one, A Meinl entry level.
It sounds ok, has snare wires inside.
Been watching Youtube vids of demos.
Easy to start, like everything to master will take time.
I can play simple Rumba and Hip hop rhythms.
I swing easily on horns and keys but for some reason have trouble with cajon.
I have played snare/brushes/hi hat many times in jam when no drummer is there and swing just fine.
Maybe it's the hands versus fingers/brushes that feels different.
Anyone else playing a cajon?

Maybe some of the difficulty Adam is the odd sitting posture required to play it. I played in a group for a couple years with a Cajon player. It was just a trio but the cajon worked really well in the small coffee shop we were playing at. Just the right volume.

They make some that have a footpedal for the kick drum sound. You might want to check out one of those as it allows you to sit more upright.

I actually got the kick drum minus the clamp years ago at ShopGoodwill before I had a cajon.
Went to Guitar Center and ordered the clamp ($18+).
I set it up and adjusted it, works great.
The only trouble is that for 50 years I've been using my right foot to keep time and the kick needs to be started early, more than the hi ht left foot.
I can get both feet to synchronize but adding the hands blows it up.
So my whole time feel has to totally be internalized to let the extremities have at it.
The hunching only really happens when reaching down for the bass note.
You are right, if I can get the pedal to be in time my posture will be better.
As I said before, it will take time.

I have one. We use it to hold up drinks and other things....occasionally it goes out on an acoustic gig where I pay a real drummer to play it. He sounds great on it.
