I have an old true tone overhauled by Aaron Barnard a few years ago, great alto, doesn't get played because it is one of 800 built, been a closet horn for 45 years. Always liked the THC 400, King Zephyr Special and the Super 20's and wish to add another alto.

Can a few of the alto players share thoughts about the differences in tone and mechanics with the TT and THC?

I have a TH&C alto and an Aristocrat alto, both overhauled by John Frazier several years ago. I also had a nice TT alto but it has moved on. I had them all three at one time.

Frankly, they were all nice horns and they sounded similar to each other because it was me who was playing them. The Aristocrat was my favorite of the three because of its easy and instant response, but that was probably because of the way the pads sealed and had nothing to do with design. The pecking order could easily be altered if the comparison involved three different horns of the same models. DAVE
