It's a different length on the middle leg than the 129's. Should attach to the body just below the tonehole. Shouldn't be hard to make one. It's just 2 pieces of 3/16" brass rod soldered to diamond foot plates. Hardest part is the barrel at the bottom that the rods fit into, but a piece of cake for anyone with 1/4" brass rod stock and a lathe.

You wouldn't have the measurements to the triangular H brace at the crook would you? Connects to the tenon and the crook joints. I need to get that replicated, it's missing on mine, replaced by a POS of lame post at one point only, but certainly not stock.

good to know it's different. Is the middle leg shorter or longer in case one materializes ?

I do have a tech who can make one. it'd be cool to find a stock one.

i believe that triangle "H" brace is more a modified "D".

is this it.................................................................. ?

Ok, I may have mispoken. I just realized you said low C, rather than D# -- which for some reason is what my head centered on.

My 139 is out for restoration at the moment and I'm not expecting it back for months, but I'll measure my Big B (129) tomorrow if that will help you. The 139 is a very different horn dimensionally than the 129 (TT and Big B 'crats), so I seriously doubt they're the same size on the C key either.

I looked at saxpics.com to see if the 2 shown there had the same crook brace. Hard to tell for sure, but I seem to remember my previous 139 had a different crook brace than yours. That said, given the pics on saxpics, I could be hallucinating and yours is what should have been on the one I have with Matt Stohrer at the moment.

These are pretty rare horns. I'd be interested to know how you came by yours?

I have some Buescher cages from Melody so maybe a Bb one would work. Silver plated. If you can measure a distance between the diamonds, I will see what I have. I could send it to you to try. You may want to go to saxpics and compare models.

The definitive source. I'd go with what Juan said.

bruce bailey:
thanks for your suggestion. not sure if the Bb guard from a c melody would be large enough.
approximate measurements:
the key cup on the C is 5cm across.
the guard "between the diamonds", measures 5cm,5cm and 6.5cm across.

maddenma:
the horn came from california via a popular auction site.
needs work. but I think it'll be great when done.

jicaino:
is the "old lady" a buescher ?

any other buescher parts horns, bari or other, out there ?

thank you

Doesn't exactly make them as common as the 129 TT's and Big B's, and particularly the 400's. It certainly seems like a rare event. I wonder if the end of the Earth in 2012 has anything to do with it?

jicaino:

I misunderstood when you said "it's the same brace".
you were referring to the crook brace. i thought you meant the key guard.
can you clarify the differences between the keyguards if possible ?
and will a true tone or big B keyguard fit the custom built ?

muchisimas thanks for your help.
