I just got a Theo Wanne Slant Sig 2 7*.
Very beautifully made, free blowing and fun. Without question a superior mouthpiece. I like the fact that the beak is not very high, lower than a typical hard rubber tenor MP.

My complaint is that it has seriously has nothing to do with a real vintage Otto Link slant signature mouthpiece in sound or design. It has a long, med. high shelf baffle in it that produces the predictable high buzzy frequencies that go along with it. What the heck was old Theo thinking????? It is way too bright and aggressive by comparison to my authentic Otto Link WT and 5* mouthpieces. It is more of a rock/R&B mouthpiece. Especially when pushed it just gets WAY too aggressive for jazz to play straight ahead jazz in a small space. But it IS excellent for what it is.

I am going to remove a bunch of baffle. I think that should help.

And that concludes my Ted Talk for today.

I get the impression from YouTube reviews and such that Wanne pieces tend towards being bright. Even the Gaia comes out bright next to other Meyerish pieces. Not necessarily a bad thing but definitely it seems like a thing.

From owning a Link STM, I would say it can be mellow towards dull at times. If the slant sigs were similarly mellow, I suspect Theo was trying to improve that aspect.

I really liked the slant sig 2 when I tried it as well for the same reasons. I had the same reaction though, very good at what it does but it was just a tad too bright/shallow/zippy for my preference.

You may want to check the tip opening before you work on the baffle. I had a few coming my way that were supposedly 7* tip opening but upon inspection, they were 5* in original condition.

They are very nice players when properly set-up.
