Hey All,
I am having trouble with intonation on my 12m and also need that big band sound for my big band. I found that the Brendan Tibbs site says it helps with just that. Does anyone have any experience using the Brendan Tibbs Bari mouthpiece on a Conn 12M?

Hi, I have a custom studio mp. Brendan made for me in solid silver and the intonation is very good. Maybe it could be the reeds, ligature, the neck or even the horn. Some vintage horns dont go well with certain metal mouthpieces or chamber designs. Good luck ok,take care.

Does anyone know whether that is the only bari model that Tibbs has made or are there other, more conventional designs (currently or in the past) ?

I think if you contact Brendan he could modify the mouthpiece to your preference. My tenor mouthpiece is a custom solid silver studio in a .105 tip. Give him a call or send him an email. He is a very cool guy to work with.

I bought a new Brendan Tibbs bari mouthpiece, mainly for my 12M and it was delivered today. It's the #8 tip (0.110") and looks really great.

I've just had a quick play on it and it tunes better than any other piece, old or new, that I have tried before. The tone is nice, but it sounds a bit 'tame' and soft - I'm used to playing modern mouthpieces with a bit of baffle and straight sidewalls (Lawton, Drake, Berg Larsen) and the Tibbs piece is much lower baffled and larger chambered than these.

I think that I may try to make a temporary baffle with Blu-Tac and see whether that brightens it up a bit, without affecting the intonation too much.

Good advice - Plasticover helps, as does a Fibracell Premier that I had to hand.

It was still a bit muffled and I think the Rovner-style ligature may have something to do with that. A Vandoren Optimum V16 tenor ligature fits well and livens things up a treat.

Now we're cooking !

I am using a winslow ligature on my solid silver studio mp. I have seen a few around they are very good ligatures. Good luck.
