Yeah...

Define "quality". Something can have high "quality" but still be a bad design. What matters to you?

Do you want to know which is "best"?

The answers to both questions are equally valid.
Hello all,

As far as reeds go, if you stay with the reputable brands such as D’Addario, Vandoren and Rigotti and try a few different models and strengths, you’ll fairly quickly come to understand what works for you and what doesn’t. But this is also dependent on the rest of the horn.

The reason for somewhat snarky responses is that there’s no consensus as to what constitutes ’best’ when it comes to these things.

For some, the search for the right mouthpiece is never ending. Ligatures are less fraught, as (imo) they need to be affordable, fit well and hold the reed securely.

If you indicate what stage of learning/playing you’re at, what you currently use and what tone you might be searching for (use players names as reference), you’ll get more constructive responses.

You need to consider that very very few here have play tested all the reeds available therefore opinions are based upon an individual players experiences
If you heard me play you would probably decide to try a different reed, mouthpiece, and ligature, but that wouldn't be any more reliable than trying what works for a good player.

Never ask a question about the "best" piece of gear for anything without specifying:
  • To achieve what particular kind of sound or response,
  • While playing what kind or kinds of music, and
  • At what budget level.

For me they tend to be stuck in a drawer, unused for some period of time, which I happen upon and discover they’re better than what I’ve been using since.
The ones that are closest to your sound are the best for you.

ligs don't matter - they don't make a sound

Next :devilish:
The smart answer is there is no objective "best" mouthpiee, reed, and ligature (or combo).

Some might chime in with their favorite gear, but that's hardly an objective measure of both quality and ulitility. You know, what works for me may not work for you? Yeah, that.

I loved my Theo Wanne mouthpiece. It gave me an amazing tone and i regret parting with it. Does that mean it's the best mouthpiece?

Absolutley not. It was just the best moutpiece for me.

Gear is all about what works best for your so you can achieve the sound you want.

As many more experienced members here have said, let us know what your goals are, what you're using, and what your budget is.

I'm sure there are great reccomendations to help you along the way.
