Today I purchased what is the finest saxophone case I have ever seen and held. This is not something I say lightly. I take saxophone products very seriously, and I'm amazed at the dedication set forth in achieving this case. For those of you not familiar with the Boston Sax Shop, it is the most customer service driven saxophone repair shop I have ever experienced. The owner, Jack Finucane, is not only an accomplished saxophonist and repair tech, he is also the model of a customer service dedicated professional. Every element of this case has been thought and rethought (Jack has a large number of prototypes with each case improving upon the previous design until Jack achieved the perfection he pursued--it's amazing to see all of those prototypes). This product is absolutely incredible. I could ramble on about the details of this case, but I think it's best to just take Jack's description and specifics and let these details serve as a review.

I have a number of personal pictures of this case with my horn in it, but I can't figure out how to post them on SOTW.

From Jack's website . . . https://www.bostonsaxshop.com/cases/the-ambassador-tenor-case

And here is the video review: Video Overview:

A case designed by saxophone players for saxophone players, every detail painstakingly accounted for and purpose built to last. As a working musician a case needs to be durable, ergonomic, have hardware your can count on, be lightweight, stylish, able to fit in an airline overhead bin and yet have plenty of storage for your gear. In our opinion the Ambassador Case is the only one on the market that checks all the boxes.

DETAILS

The Ambassador case is made from a textured plastic composite structure resulting in lightweight yet durable case.

The hardware used is all steel and utilizes four 'butterfly latches' that require a two stage locking operation ensuring that there is no possible way for them to open independently.

The interior of the case features a firm, memory style foam guaranteeing a tight fit designed to last.

An ample YKK zippered exterior pocket provides just the right amount of storage while keeping the overall footprint of the case small, allowing it to easily fit into overhead airline compartments. Cushioned double handles on either half of the exterior ensure that even if one forgets to latch the case and picks it up, it will not open.

The Ambassador case also includes padded backpack straps with steel snap hooks in addition to braided steel wire loops that act as a failsafe for the unlikely event of strap failure. A velvet padded neck and mouthpiece storage pouch is provided as well.

The Ambassador case accommodates Selmer Mark VI, Selmer Mark VII, Selmer Balanced Action, Selmer Super Balanced Action, All Modern Selmer, Yamaha, Yanagisawa, Ishimori, Eastman, P. Mauriat, Cannonball, King Super 20, Conn 10M and all Taiwanese 'Selmer' Style saxophones. If you have a question about the fit of a specific saxophone model please contact us.

Video Overview:

DIMENSIONS:

6.6lbs

Pocket: 12x5x2"

Length 32"

Widest section 10"

Depth 8.25"

Each Ambassador case is backed by a 1 year warranty against factory defects

The Ambassador cases are manufactured by an American company which has been producing instrument cases for some of the leading brands in the industry since 1956. Each case is hand assembled in a green, carbon neutral production facility in Costa Rica and 20% of all the companies profits go back to charities in the community.

Here are a few of the images I took of the case. The pouch on the top of the case has enough space to cover most of the essentials one would carry in a rectangular saxophone case. The internal padding is thick and dense securing the horn in place with no perceivable movement of the horn. The captioned butterfly latches have a two stage locking mechanism--there is no accidentally opening those. I didn't get an image of the two back pack straps, but that image is accessible at Jack's website. Please let me know if you would like any additional photos.

Like Dirty said, they are sold out and on pre-order. I am actually interested in the alto case myself but that one isn’t even on pre-order on the website and I got on the pre-order list over six months ago. Did you buy one available at the Boston Sax Shop in person?

What's the cost on these? They are sold out on the BSS website right now, so I can't even add one to my cart to see that.
I think it was about $439.00, which is completely fair for the work put into this case. I've not ever seen so much devotion to perfection as what Jack displays--he has prototype after prototype lined up on a shelf--he is truly committed to perfection.
Best,
Ben

I just happened to be passing through the shop to pick up a horn and drop one off so I bought one. Hope you and yours are well, Andre.

Looks fantastic. I have been debating a case upgrade for the Mauriat, I think this may be the kicker once the alto cases are out.

It looks fantastic and I love the burly hardware. Is it able to accommodate different horns (it's pictured with a 10M, a VI and a Super 20) because of the memory foam? I have different cases for my VI, 10M and Zephyr and I can't really swap horns between the cases.

The only cases I've seen that I think seem better might be the Manning carbon fiber custom ones. And those are in a totally different price range. No wonder these are selling out faster than they can make them!

Ben, Are you permanently in Boston now? Still making pieces?
I am permanently in Boston now, and I'll have a new round of Dagradi Signature Models and Jazzmaster style pieces in the late summer (Dagradi is still playing the same old piece, and I've decided to replicate the Jazzmaster versus by version the 10E.) The stamping is changing to Boston. Thanks for asking.

I guess I could glue a shaving kit on the side of my Berkeley case.
I wonder if it's sold without that. I prefer using my case cover if I want pockets for other junk.
I agree. I actually liked my ol' Walt Johnson with a Cavallo case cover that had a long external pocket, and faux sheepskin lining for heat and shock protection.

I'll have to contact Jack to see whether they know if the case will fit either Borgani Jubilee tenor model (J and OBT).

Update: I just checked the site, and learned that the case may be ordered with or without the external pocket. Now to see if Cavallo or Small Dog is still making covers.
