I have seen some nice examples of jazz etudes. Probably from that book.
Who has this book and what is your opinion about it?
This is a terrific book. Presents TONS of great info. I particularly like the chapter(s) dealing with what he calls "outlines". They are three basic melodic shapes that form the skeletons of many bop-oriented jazz licks. He introduces the outlines and then applies lots of techniques for ornamenting them to create a variety of different lines.
This fall I'll be using CTJM for the first time as the text for my university jazz improvisation class. I'll let you know how it works out...
