Hi,

Does anyone know what Bob Malach uses for reeds? I know he is listed as a Vandoren performing artist. I can hear the Vandoren "vibrancy" in his sound (as opposed to the RJS "core"). Of course I could be hallucinating this. My guess is V16.

Thanks!

John, I've never found any website for him. This leads me to guess that he does not need to promote himself (his playing does it for him and he gets plenty of work) and/or he enjoys his privacy. I say good for him on both counts.

Concur on all accounts! If I hear of a way to contact him, I'll definitely pass along.....

Bob is such a musical player, I feel fortunate to have had a couple of brief chats with him after gigs and his persona is as warm as his playing!

Check out the recording 'After Hours' if you haven't, it's trio with the astounding Billy Peterson on bass and Kenny Horst on drums, two 'veterans' from Minneapolis. This recording was literally done late night after gigs and the tunes are wonderful!

cheers, DC

Yes, that "After Hours" is good stuff. Also, if you can, check out a recording by pianist Jasper Van't Hof called "Pseudopodia". It's just piano and Malach and was just recorded in the last couple of years.

I love it when great players are also nice people!

When I worked at Robert's fron 1999-2002 he was playing Java 3 1/2. He would come in and buy about 10 boxes at a time. If I remember correctly there were a couple of times we were out of 3 1/2's and he picked up a couple of boxes of 4's.

EASY!!! Write Vandoren thru the website and facebook. You'll get an answer fast. It's called artist relations. Last timeI saw Malach he had a Wood Stone mouthpiece. ( That day :) )
