I have a black rico metalite M5 baritone mouthpiece. My best theory is that it was a stencil. I got it in a trade and the logo's worn off.

Has anyone else ever come across one of these? I searched the forums and found no mention of them.

Really? I'm glad they changed it, that grey was horrible. Too bad I already bought two reissue grey ones (tenor and bari).

I've had my black one for about four years. The guy I got it from was in his late 20's and had used it in high school.

I was not 100% positive on this. Just going by what I mostly saw in pictures.

Kessler just posted some new pics of shiney Gray ones.

Both Graftonites and Metalites came with that stamp! I own a Metalite and several Graftonites that's got "Rico Royal" on its back. It's more like a line than a model, I guess. The new Metalites aren't stamped "Royal", though (at least mine isn't).

Well....have we decided yet?
I like the Metalite, but dislike the calcified dog **** grey colour.
Is the new issue coloured black or not please?

I sent an email to Rico, asking them to PLEASE switch the Metalite to black (2013)
This is their response:

I appreciate your feedback, and I'm sorry that you don't like the color. I'm familiar with the thread and the comments, and have relayed this information to my team. Of course the thoughts and needs of our customers are important to us. That said, our engineers are swamped with development projects that are of greater priority. Whereas this is an important issue, it is a cosmetic issue. In all honesty, if we do ever decide to change the color, it wouldn't occur for the foreseeable future.

I hope you can understand. We, of course, appreciate your loyalty and support of Rico.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

JR

Black and white are just extreme shades of grey. I don't see the problem, I have two and don't play them but not because of this. I think you guys are just embarrassed. Relax, no one but a few saxophone geeks will know that you're playing a cheap Rico mouthpiece.
