My guess is that the plating on the keys was worn very badly, and that would be very expensive to fix. The seller indicated that the plating was new on the body and inside the bell, so he must have decided to epoxy paint the keys rather than replate them.

It also says it's "one of a kind restoration". I'd tend to agree with that.

should have epoxied it all white I think... increase it's value by making it look plastic, now that's an idea!

Epoxied "off-white" with gold-plated keys and a brass neck. Instant Grafton!
