I will be playing bass clarinet on some songs for the next few months and its been 4 years since I've played BC. What are the best reeds for jazz music? Would it make a difference thats it ballards that I'm play BC on?

I find tenor sax reeds work better on bass clarinet than bass clarinet reeds. Right now I use La Voz MH tenor reeds on my bass clarinet.

I kinda like the el'cheapo Rico orange box bass clarinet reeds. If I want to spend more...LaVoz or Rico Royal.
They're pretty decent 'all around' reeds. :)

Are you playing exclusively BC or are you doubling with baritone or some other saxophone? If you're doubling, I second the suggestion of Legere. No need to keep it wet, no warping, sounds great immediately. I do not like Legeres on saxophone at all, but on bass clarinet they are a revelation.

+ 1 on the Legere Reeds. Very good product. I don't believe there's such a thing as a jazz reed btw. I used to play Vandoren blue box for jazz and contemporary classical music. Sounded fine. All that matters is finding the reed with the right sound and amount of resistance.

Definitely agree on the Legere! I'm relatively new to the BC - tried a variety of cane reeds (Vandoren, various Rico flavors, etc.) and finally found the Legere to be (for me) both the best sounding and the easiest to play. I can't say anything about the various strengths having used only a 2.5 thus far, I might try a 3 sometime but am most happy with the 2.5.
