Hello everyone,

I am trying to choose one mute for saxophone alto and I hesitate between these two options which appear to be the best according to available reviews on the internet:
- the best bras e-sax mute (http://www.bestbrass.com/stf/e-sax.html)
- the saxmute one (http://saxophone-mute.com/)

I am looking for a testimony of someone who tried both and who could give me some advice on which one should I choose.

Thanks,

Haven't tried both, but I do own an saxmute one. It does work as advertised, and pretty much dampens everything from the sax. I have the tenor version.

Three things to consider though.

One, you will need some sort of stand to put it on. I have a speaker stand (like $20) that I use.

Two, it gets rather "hot" after playing for a while. There is basically NO ventilation.

Three, you will want a microphone and headphone. It's really is annoying to try to practice while the sax is in the mute. If you have a microphone (and in the current model I think they have a little screw-in port you can affix a microphone clip) you can easily hook it up and it sounds pretty much like normal. Or if you are practicing for a gig with a mic.

Anyhow, I thought it was worth the $$$
