Funny you should mention that, I've been listening to Dexter Gordon on a YouTube loop:

Wonderful tune and soulful solos with a deep groove. Listen to how Dexter Gordon speaks through Jerrys horn.

Older video. FWIW, his hair is quite a bit grayer now and he's using a 10* slant and an original 10* early babbit instead of the Lawton that I think he's using in this clip. :)

Jerry got both the slant 10* and EB 10* from me...an honestly, his sound in person on those---is so ridiculously great. The slant is a little warmer. The baffle on the EB was huge!
I prefer him on rubber, but i know lots of guys that like him more on metal. Either way---he's still the best!

Anyone else feel that those facial close-ups put the lie to his concept of the "no embouchure" embouchure? You can see all kinds of muscular action in his face - chin, cheeks, mouth corners... Maybe he feels that he's just putting the horn in his mouth and blowing, but it sure doesn't look like it to me.

I'm not sure I could even make a sound with a 10* and a medium Rico.
