Hi SOTW nation,
as a new born host
I would like to propose for June's TOTM - "I'm in the mood for Love".
Scrolled the list of TOTMs from previous years and didn't see it. I guess it will be pretty simple and pleasant tune for B and I in terms of dealing with a beautiful melody.
For B&I Plus, so called Advanced class guys it will be interesting too… and if our BIG cats (I will not name them)
will desire to provide their takes, it will just shine up the great tune written 85 years ago and played by all the greats.
And will stimulate others.
OK, I stop my roman…
1. I suggest to take a quick read of the tune's "bio" (I always do, to refresh my jazz soul ): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I'm_in_the_Mood_for_Love
2. Here are the scores and backing track : https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ar0t68kb42Tx32NfE8KAQJjkB0T_?e=amPOEo
Note: backing and C score are from Mr. Abersold vol. 72; 3 files - for Alto, Tenor and Flute (another C) are kindly provided by Taragot. Thanks to Peter too (for care).
Say truth, I would recommend even for a beginner, to touch the lead sheet only for a reference and use the ear. The tune is easy melody and rhythm wise and could/should be quickly memorized. Finally, we are jazz oriented here
.
When you'll know the "text" with the "closed eyes" and play it freely with the track, you will be much more efficient during impro part.
Take into consideration please: the mantra of the tune is "LOVE"
Of course, if you can provide interesting playback, slower maybe, it will be nice. We can reduce the tempo of the offered one to make it sound as a ballad.
Have fun!
Michael.
P.S. there are dozens of renditions on youtube…
Charlie The Bird -
James Moody -
Ella Fitzgerald -
And many other diamonds… choose your favorite…
I loved much Barbra Streisand rendition -
