Also here (like for the main TOTM) no new host volunteered for this month, so I just post something for the attenders to stay busy...

This month B&I TOTM will be "Blue Moon".

Scores:
View attachment Blue Moon (F for Bb instr) - score RB2.pdf
View attachment Blue Moon (C for Eb instr) - score RB2.pdf

YouTube backings:

I probably won't be very active as a 'real' host this month. Would be nice if we can play that role together.

Have fun! :)

That's a real nice bari take take Nick.

I also recorded one for that Cafe thread in August 2018, when I still had a place to record. Here it is:

Nice take Peter.
Your style works well with the Gypsy backing.
I'll try to get a fresh take up myself this month if I get a break from work.

Thanks my friends for posting old things.
These are two takes which are 6 years old.
January 2014...
I'll probably post other takes in order to compare.

Alto :
Tenor :

Old time ago when I was living with another girlfriend.

Oh !

December 2014 !!! On alto !!!

Please ! Don't judge me !!!

I've just mixed the two takes from January 2014, I think it's wonderful !!!

That's a lot of takes Lionel! :)

I checked all briefly and think your improvisation lines and skills did much improve since the 2014 takes, also sound and articulation. The 'Ornett' mixes are fun, with two better than with three takes.

I''m sure Toots would like your newest two takes on your new Melodica (right?)! I also liked them. :)

Hi all, after several months of not playing much I tried squeezing in some noodle-time and combined that with this quick Blue Noodle take. I sure hope to find some time again to pick up my instrument a bit more again, but at least for now I managed to put in a contribution again.

Good to see you back posting Grumpie. :)

Nice and swinging rendation, also liked the backing a lot.

Thanks Peter. I do mis having the time to play more at home at the moment and the little time I have available is used for the bigband charts. So it's mostly a short warm-up with some scales and then dive into those whenever there is a spare moment. But there is still hope for the future, for now it is as it is :)

The credits for the backing track are for Al Stevens who made a lot of them for standards and ballads etc. He made these available here a long time ago, but finally the website was removed as I think to remember.

Here's one I did back in August 2018 for the Cafe.

Nice one Nick, I like how you embellish the melody and I hear some very great ideas that I wil have another listen for. Great job on drifting away from the melody and weaving back in.
I also liked the use of that fat low end on the bari without overdoing it. Thanks for this one.

Newcomer to this place. Here is my rendition of Blue moon:

I'm learning, so any comment, critique or advice is welcome.
Welcome to the TOTM threads Cuevas, nice to see a new member attending. :)

I enjoyed listening to your take. You played the theme well and the solo had a nice buildup. At some places the timing was a bit 'stiff', but the overall swing feel was there. Sound wise it seems that you some times don't give the horn enough air. Also playing with a more loose embouchure could open your sound a bit more.

Thanks for sharing and hope to hear more from you in future threads.
